Welcome to this newsletter - This is me
I've been trying to think of a way to start this newsletter with and, what it might contain. Somehow it always comes back to one thing: that I should start with introducing myself. So, here we go.
Who am I?
I’m Mia, and I live in Sweden. I have two dogs, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, Embla, eight years old and Nike, eight months old. I don’t only have them for the company they provide; I also train them in retrieving, tracking and obedience.
I like to play tennis, cook food and run.
I work as a communication strategist in the public sector, and I have a background in media and marketing, such as social media, a journalism university degree and photography. Communication is the most fun, complex and exciting thing I know.
I have a mum, a dad and a little brother that used to play top-flight volleyball and has represented the Swedish national team. I’m very proud of him and proud to be his sister.
I freelance as a sports journalist in women’s football for TV4 Sweden/Fotbollskanalen, where I write a weekly column and do a podcast, Their Pitch, with Amanda Zaza. Fotbollskanalen is the biggest new site In Sweden when it comes to football. I also write analytical articles sometimes, scouting players and players reports. Everything I do as a sports journalist I do in my spare time.
I have bylines for Analytics FC, Her Football Hub and Our Game Magazine, to mention a few platforms where I have been lucky to get that chance to write about what I love the most - women’s football.
I do a live stream broadcast together with PlaymakerAI, a Swedish Football Analysis platform, every two weeks. The content I create there I do together with football data analyst Jesper Haglöf.
I played football when I was younger but quit because I grew up in a small town where if you were good at football, you were promoted to the senior team in the club real quickly. I was too young to handle that, and soon, football wasn’t fun anymore - it was just a must.
As an adult, I’ve taken courses in football analysis at BarcaInnovation Hub - Introduction level, and I’m about to start the Advanced level as soon as I find the time for it. I’ve also had the honour to do 26 modules/courses that Analyisport provides in performance and recruitment analysis.
When I watch football, I don’t just want to see WHAT’S happening. I want to know WHY it’s happening. That’s my philosophy. But we can maybe come back to that later if anyone is interested.
Why this Newsletter?
So, why am I doing this? I love writing, and I love women’s football. There are many reasons for that. Also, this is my space to decide what I want to write.
Analysis? News? Thoughts? Sharing my values? Actual and relevant topics? Who knows? Time will tell.
What kind of community am I looking to build here?
This newsletter/blog is for everyone, just like football. No matter who you are, where you are from, who you love, or your skin colour, we all still have one thing in common. We are humans. Equal humans. My newsletter might not be the place for you if you don't believe that.
It’s not A culture that hates or discriminates. It’s not A religion that pursues people and kills them. It’s not A country that uses its power to silence people and take their voices away from them. It’s the people within a culture, a religion and a country that do that. I have plenty to learn, like most of us. I want to learn more.
Communication is power
To me, communication is a tool I use to build strong relationships which are based on trust. Building relationships where two parties trust each other can take time, but destroying the same can only take a second. Communication is the most powerful tool we have, and, used right, it can be everything. What we say and what we do - that’s what builds our brands as human beings.
Still with me? Let’s jump on this journey together and see where it takes us.
And remember - Football is for everyone, and so is this newsletter. But it might help if you like football.
Happy to have one more platform to follow your work! Wishing you success on this project. I am from Brazil and it is very hard to find content about women's football here, leave alone international women's football. Yesterday, Geyse opened the win for Barcelona against Bayern for the UWCL in front of a record attendance in Camp Nou and there was nothing about it on the news. So much to be explored here. So it is great to have such a high quality content available. All the best and thank you!
Came across your account on Twitter and saw this link, wanted to wish you luck! I've been a football writer for quite a few years now with focus on men's football yet always wanted to make the time to get into the women's game. This website will be a massive help in getting me up to date and into it a lot more so thank you for what you decided to do and i can't wait to read it! All the best. - Ali
